Hanlan Feeder Main – Dixie Road

Challenge:
Chlorides existing in soil can penetrate watermain concrete, and accelerate the corrosion of embedded prestressed wires. This has led to an increase in catastrophic watermain failures, posing serious risks to public safety, the environment, and surrounding infrastructure. Failures often result in widespread service disruptions, extensive water loss, costly emergency repairs, and damage to roads and utilities. After Peel Region assessed that the Hanlan Feeder Main needed repair to avoid such failures, TCI provided a solution that would avoid the cost, time and disruption associated with a full replacement.

Solution:
TCI CarbonStrong 850, a carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP), was applied as an external wrap, increasing the working pressure capacity of the existing watermain. Our CFRP provided a structural, non-invasive method to restore integrity to full service in one week.

The application of the TCI CarbonStrong 850 System effectively extended the feeder main lifespan by 50+ years. This successful rehabilitation highlights TCI Carbon Fibre’s commitment to delivering advanced, reliable technologies that address critical infrastructure challenges.
