Challenge:
After being inactive for over 2 years and showing signs of deterioration, the Herridge Feeder Main required structural repair. Being a 60-inch diameter prestressed concrete cylinder pipe (PCCP) spanning 6 kilometers beneath busy roads and highways, a traditional open-cut replacement was not feasible. Urgent rehabilitation was required to prevent major failure while minimizing disruption to the surrounding infrastructure.

Solution:
TCI CarbonStrong 850 structural liner and TCI ProTecStrong SPL protective coating system provided an exceptional solutional for a trenchless repair. Applied internally, the CarbonStrong system restored structural performance and provided environmental protection without the need for excavation. The new termination joint and coating system passed water tightness testing, ensuring no leaks even at the CFRP termination joints.

The rehabilitated feeder main has been fully operational since late 2016 and continues to perform without issue. The project not only extended the service life of a critical water transmission asset but also demonstrated the effectiveness of TCI’s CFRP-based trenchless renewal systems for large-scale infrastructure applications.
