Challenge:
In harsh sewer environments, corrosion and degradation pose serious threats to the longevity and reliability of critical infrastructure. The West Trunk Sewer, a massive 2400mm concrete pipeline spanning 10 kilometers, required a protective liner system to guard against biogenic corrosion. A further visual investigation also revealed cracking and water infiltration in the concrete, requiring structural repair to restore integrity. To effectively provide a solution for both demands, TCI structural and protective liners were selected.
Solution:
TCI ShieldStrong 955-PL-G and TCI ProTecStrong 855-R (Repair) meet the demands of one of the largest trenchless rehab projects in the nation. Built to perform in the harshest conditions, TCI ShieldStrong 955-PL-G delivers exceptional sulfuric acid resistance and is SWAT-tested and approved. Together with TCI ProTecStrong 855-R—a fiber-reinforced epoxy engineered for strength and chemical resilience—this advanced system protects the West Trunk Sewer from degradation overtime.Â
A benefit of a non-single system liner, TCI CarbonStrong 850 system was used in select locations that required more support in areas of extreme damage. The installed system delivers long-term durability and corrosion resistance, safeguarding the pipeline’s structural integrity. With corrosion protection and structural rehabilitation, the West Trunk Sewer will go on to support some of the largest communities in Canada.Â
