As we approach the 10-year anniversary since TCI CarbonStrong 850 and TCI ProTecStrong SPL were applied to the Herridge Feedermain in the Region of Peel (Mississauga, ON), we’re proud to be featured by Trenchless Technology.
Originally constructed in the late 1970s, the 6 km, 1500 mm PCCP feedermain was taken out of service after significant distress was identified across multiple pipe segments. With the pipeline located beneath major roads and highways, traditional open-cut replacement was not feasible—prompting the Region to pursue a trenchless rehabilitation approach using CFRP technology.
The renewal began in 2016, targeting critical sections of the line using internally applied CFRP systems. TCI’s CarbonStrong structural liner restored load-bearing capacity, while ProTecStrong provided long-term environmental protection. The system design followed AWWA standards for pressure pipes and potable water applications, ensuring both structural performance and regulatory compliance.
A decade later, the feedermain remains fully operational with no signs of deterioration. Long-term testing has shown the CFRP liner continues to meet or exceed performance requirements, even after extended exposure to pressurized potable water. This project demonstrates how CFRP-based trenchless solutions can successfully rehabilitate critical infrastructure at scale—extending service life, maintaining system reliability, and avoiding disruption in dense urban environments.
We’re proud to have played a role in this long-term success and remain committed to delivering durable, forward-thinking solutions for essential infrastructure.
